TIMES : Registration 9:00am for 9:30am start. Finish at 5:00pm.

NOTE : Booking is ESSENTIAL if you wish to participate in test pitting or even if you just wish to come on site to view the activities.

We cannot allow ANYONE on site that has not previously booked.

We will be digging a number of trial trenches at the site of Cuckney Castle, to answer a number of key research questions. This excavation is open to YOU!
The excavation will be undertaken as a Community Archaeology Excavation by public volunteers under supervision from experts at Mercian. Places per day may be limited, but at the initial stage please let us know all days you would like to attend (if you have certain preferred days let us know, and we will take these into account should we need to limit the number of days individual people can attend).
The excavation is open for all to attend.

FREE Community Archaeology Topographic Survey

The topographic survey will record features in fields to the North of Cuckney church and will be undertaken using a range of different mapping and surveying equipment including a survey grade GPS, robotic Total Station and Total Station.
You will have a chance to undertaken all the different techniques and learn all about surveying and the local history and archaeology of the site.
